Minas Tirith

"Sauron moves to strike Minas Tirith." -Gandalf

Minis Tirith: The capital of Gondor in the Lord of the Rings universe. Originally called Minis Anor ("Tower of the Sun"), Minis Tirith ("Tower of the Guard") was renamed amidst the battle for Middle Earth. A siege of the city took place during one of the last battles in the war against the dark forces of Mordor.

Minis Tirith was a city of men in a kingdom of men. Below is another monument to the kings of men called the Argonath:

In a universe where more than one intelligent species thrived which included elves, dwarves, and of course hobbits, men were known to be particularly prideful. Such impressive MONUMENTS represented the perceived superiority of men to these other species.

Eventually the war for Middle Earth was won by mankind only with the help of all other species, particularly the hobbit Frodo Baggins who destroyed the ring of power and subsequently the dark lord Sauron.
